The last we’d heard on the Suicide Squad sequel was that Warner Brothers were looking at their options when it comes to a director. Now, though, the follow-up has moved to bring in a writer.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Cozad has been brought in to pen the screenplay for the sequel to David Ayer’s original movie. Cozad is best known for his work on Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and The Legend of Tarzan.

With Ayer now signed on to helm the female-driven, Margot Robbie-led Gotham City Sirens for Warners, the studio’s shortlist for the Suicide Squad 2 director’s chair is reportedly made up of Hacksaw Ridge’s Mel Gibson, Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, 50/50’s Jonathan Levine, and Safe House’s Daniel Espinosa.

It’s expected that the majority of the first film’s key players will be back for the sequel, and bringing in a screenwriter is certainly a big step forward. Expect to hear a lot more on the director situation over the next few months, too.
