Well Adi Shankar has done it again. This time teaming with director Joseph Kahn, the man who brought the world the wonderful THE PUNISHER: DIRTY LAUNDRY, VENOM: TRUTH IN JOURNALISM and JUDGE DREDD: SUPERFIEND shorts has turned his attention to the Power Rangers. Oh, and he’s brought James Van Der Beek and Katee Sackhoff with him.

Yesterday saw a short dubbed POWER/RANGERS surface online, produced by Shankar and directed by Kahn. A much darker, sinister take on the famed Rangers, the short has been receiving praise from all corners of the Internet. Check it out for yourself:

Now there is already a new live-action POWER RANGERS in development, which you’d have to think was never planned to be anything like the above. In fact, it still won’t end up anything like the above, but we’d like to think that POWER/RANGERS at least provides this new movie with food for thought.

As for Shankar, he insists that this short is in no way a pitch for the new POWER RANGERS but it was just a way for him to explore this group of child soldiers who end up involved in an intergalactic war that they have nothing to do with, and so he decided to explore angles like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Either way, it makes for some stunning viewing.
