In terms of having their fingers in a plethora of pies, it doesn’t get much more impressive than Mark Millar and his crammed schedule. Whilst the next movie adaptation of a MillarWorld property that we’ll see on the big screen is KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, it was reported late last year that 20th Century Fox had picked up the right to Millar and Goran Parlov’s STARLIGHT. Now comes word that a writer has boarded that particular project.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Gary Whitta, currently working on the draft for the first of the STAR WARS spin-off movies, will be penning the script for the movie adaptation of STARLIGHT. Whitta’s previous credits included the likes of THE BOOK OF ELI and Telltale Games’ fantastic THE WALKING DEAD. Impressively, STARLIGHT’s cinematic rights were picked up before the first issue was even released.

As for as the plot goes, STARLIGHT is officially described as follows:

So much for retirement! Meet Duke McQueen, a man who has long since settled down and left his days of saving the Universe and operating as the space hero everyone depended on – at least that’s what he thought. His wife long passed and his kids off embarking on their own adventures, Duke lives a quiet, solitary life until he receives an unexpected call from a distant world, calling him to action one last time.

Simon Kinberg will serve as a producer on the movie, although no release date has been given at this stage.
