We all expected Star Wars: The Force Awakens to be big, big box office hit, and that’s certainly proving to be the case as it continues to smash box office records.

This past weekend has seen the film now pass the $1.5 billion mark, making it the sixth highest grossing film of all-time. The Force Awakens isn’t stopping there, though, for it will soon pass the figures of Furious 8 and Avengers: Age of Ultron to make it the fourth highest-grossing film ever. To put the film’s success into further perspective, it’s also the fastest movie to reach $700 million in the US (it’s currently taken $740 million over the pond), taking just 16 days to reach that amount in comparison to James Cameron’s Avatar which took 72 days.

The Force Awakens has yet to even be released in China as of this stage, with a Chinese release set for January 9th, and it’s safe to say that this latest venture into a galaxy far, far away is set to become the highest-grossing film in cinema history.
