Whilst the upcoming big screen antics of Star Wars may be catching the imagination of many right now, today brings some news on the future of the small screen element of the greatest sci-fi franchise of all-time (yes, we said it!) as Star Wars Rebels has been confirmed for a third season.

Disney XD announced the new, revealing that they’ve ordered a third season of Lucasfilm’s impressive animated series which takes place in between the finale of Revenge of the Sith and the start of A New Hope. Apparently a third season of Rebels is already in production and will be arriving next year.

On this news, Disney XD’s Marc Buhaj said, “We are proud to bring our audience a third season of Star Wars Rebels, a series that has resonated across generations. The creative team behind the series continues to do a brilliant job in delivering on the key tenets that fans have come to expect from a Star Wars property including adventure, hope and the battle between good vs. evil.”

Rebels has been the perfect appetiser for the upcoming new cinematic releases in the Star Wars franchise, as we get set for Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Episode VIII and Episode IX, all of which we be sandwiched in-between three Anthology movies, the first of which will be Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One.

Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels debuted in the UK in October, and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hits cinemas on December 17th.
