The new Star Trek fim is getting every closer to the production line, and when it starts, it will have to travel at warp speed to make it’s June 29th, 2012 release date. Even though JJ. Abrams says he is confident that he can hit the release date, Paramount aren’t so sure and they might holt the release until December next year.
This would mean it would miss the summer block buster period and instead be one of the biggest films over the winter.
Filming for the new film will take place in August and September. This time, the writer and cast have a bigger Star Trek universe to explore.
The last film could be considered a Batman Begins of space, a Star Trek Zero. It took the series right back to the beginning and gave it a firm base to leap from.
The still untitled film will focus more on the theme of family compared to the last one. There is also still no confirmation of who the bad guys are going to be but Zoe Saldana who played Uhura in the first film did say she was looking forward to kicking some Romulan butt. It seems a little odd that they would go with the same ‘bad guy’ two films in a row.
Paramount studios are treating this as a priority. After the success of the last film, it would be stupid not too. They are making it such a priority in fact, that they have prosponed Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan reboot so he is free for filming.
It just wouldn’t be Star Trek without Kirk now would it.
