PUBLISHER: MODIPHUS / RELEASE DATE: OUT NOW
The core book for the Star Trek Adventures Roleplaying Game gives you pretty much all the tools you need to run table top roleplaying game sessions inspired by any era of Star Trek. The rules are pretty comprehensive, but the game is designed for you to create original characters.
Star Trek Adventures: Enterprise Player Characters pretty much does exactly what it says on the cover; it’s a supplement that gives you all the information you need to play as the characters from the TV series Star Trek Enterprise. We get the core crew, stats for Commander Thy’Lek Shran and rules for the NX-01 version of the Enterprise.
It’s nicely formatted and illustrated; the pictures of each of the crew are extremely well done and it’s always fun to see fresh interpretations of the Enterprise. The character descriptions are a little sparse; though the rules are absolutely spot-on and every person in this book is very playable, there’s a distinct lack of character guidance.
Everything required to play Captain Archer, T’Pol, Tucker, Reed, Sato, Mayweather, Phlox, and Shran is on the page but it would have been nice to have some observations as to how to handle certain situations like the heroes on screen. Star Trek Adventures is the sort of game that builds personality quirks into the rules of the game, for example Phlox has ‘My Patience Exceeds Your Stubborness’ as a value, but a bit more direction would be nice. Instead if you’re planning on running an Enterprise inspired game you’ll probably need to watch the show again. Which sounds like fun to us.
