STAR TREK fans have been a bit at odds with themselves since J.J. Abrams divisive reboot in 2009. With many still reeling from INTO DARKNESS (read: WRATH OF KHAN-lite), the details emerging about the upcoming third instalment haven’t offered a whole lot of comfort. Well, until now that is.

Film Divider have revealed that the villain has been described as “Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role. We don’t know just yet if he said yes, or if this is an all-new character or somebody from continuity, but because they’re shooting for Cranston we at least know the filmmakers want to bring the intensity”.

The site goes on to claim that there’ll be three new female leads in the role, including Bone’s ex-wife, who may or may not be a new character for the film or Pamela Branch or Jocelyn Treadaway. The others are the President of the United Federation of Planets, and a starship captain which is believed to be a love interest for Kirk. Whatever the case, let’s hope they skip the gratuitous underwear flashes this time around.

It goes without saying, until we hear anything official then treat this purely as rumour at this stage.

STAR TREK 3 is set to start filming in Vancouver on April 15th ahead of a 2016 release to coincide with the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
