With many a Marvel hero being brought to life on the big screen and small screen, it now looks as if Squirrel Girl is on the way as part of a New Warriors comedy series.

TVLine is reporting that Marvel Entertainment and ABC Studios are developing the show, with the series currently being shopped around cable and streaming outlets. Whilst the working title is New Warriors, the show would largely be built around one of Marvel’s most fan-favourite heroes, Squirrel Girl.

The New Warriors team debuted back in The Mighty Thor #411 as pretty much ‘The Avengers Juniors’. The younger heroes were initially created by Tom DeFalco, with the likes of Nova, Firestar, Marvel Boy, Speedball, Namorita, and Night Thrasher making up the original line-up. Various other heroes would be added over the years, including the Scarlet Spider, Dagger, and Darkhawk.

As for Squirrel Girl, she debuted in January 1992’s Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #8. Also known as Doreen Green, she has the ability to communicate with squirrels, plus has her own superhuman senses, strength and agility as well as a tail and claws.

This follows on from a recent Anna Kendrick interview where she talked about how she’d be interested in playing Squirrel Girl after her brother told her how perfect she’d be for the role.

As ever, expect more on New Warriors as it develops.
