This very afternoon has finally seen the cat let out of the bag on a new mystery project from Clare Eden, Sophie Aldred, Trevor Neal and Simon Hickson. An audio adventure entitled STRANGENESS IN SPACE, this is set to be some wholesome, humourous entertainment that can be enjoyed by one and all.

Clare was one of the minds behind the heralded MINISTER OF CHANCE audio series, whilst Sophie is fondly remembered by genre fans for playing Ace alongside Sylvester McCoy in DOCTOR WHO, and then Trevor and Simon are the same comedy duo that were such a staple of Saturday morning TV throughout the ‘80s and early ‘90s. The foursome have come together for a series which will see Sophie, Trev and Simon partake in a space adventure that will take in aliens, monster, cyborgs and a whole host more, all drenched in the famed Trev and Simon school of comedy.

As well as being officially announced this afternoon, it was also revealed that the project will taking the crowdfunding route to assist with production. Allowing fans to get directly involved with the series, this Kickstarter campaign will launch on Tuesday, March 24th and come to an end at 10pm on Sunday, April 26th.

In the meantime, here’s the official press release on the series:

Sophie Aldred, the seventh Doctor’s companion Ace, is heading back into Space – this time not with Sylvester McCoy but with comedy duo Trev and Simon who entertained us for so many years in BBC TV’s Going Live and Live & Kicking. Alongside Clare Eden, producer of the award winning podcast series The Minister of Chance, the team will be bringing you Strangeness in Space, a sci-fi comedy podcast series for kids aged 8 to 80, and beyond….

The series is also written by Trev & Simon: “We loved that parents seemed to enjoy our humour as much as their kids on Saturday morning telly and we intend to bring the same sense of family fun to this”. The audio series will be free to download, financed by a crowd-funding campaign starting in March. “On Minister of Chance we literally started with just an idea but no commissioning budget” said Clare Eden, “and we ended up with a worldwide fanbase financing an entire first season through crowdfunding; winning a Parsec Award and being nominated for a BBC Audio Award along the way! It’s a wonderful way for an audience to have a sense of ownership on something they enjoy”. The foursome met at University studying Drama in Manchester. “50 years ago in March Alexei Leonov took the first ever walk in Space,” said Sophie, “I find it hilarious that I am now heading off to Space for adventures with Trev and Simon!”

Full details on the crowd-funding campaign, and when the series will be released, will be available from www.strangenessinspace.com.
