After the disappointing third instalment in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy, fans were baying for a solo outing for fan-favourite Venom. One of the many problems with 2007’s SPIDER-MAN 3 was multiple antagonists (an issue THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 didn’t seem to notice), but now it appears another name has been thrown into the symbiotic mix.

The news of a Venom stand-alone movie is cause for celebration, right? Deadline has reported, amidst the news of a female-driven Spider-Man spin-off, that the film formerly known as VENOM will in fact be called VENOM CARNAGE. Serial killer Cletus Kasady, the manic that becomes Carnage, isn’t without his fans, indeed for this writer’s money he trumped Eddie Brock’s Venom. Still, it is saddening that Brock still won’t get enough room to manoeuvre.

The movie, which is still in its development stages, has STAR TREK and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2’s Alex Kurtzman set to direct, writing the script alongside Ed Solomon.

VENOM CARNAGE is slated for a 2017 release.
