We all know that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 was nowhere near as well received by fans and critics as Sony Pictures was hoping for. So much so, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 was pushed way back to 2018. Well now comes word that Sony are actually looking to have the Wallcrawler team up with The Avengers in crossover movie.

Hitfix reports that after this year’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 became the lowest grossing of all of the Spidey films to date, including Sam Raimi’s trilogy, Sony are more than open about Spider-Man appearing in the world that Marvel Studios and Disney have created. Whether Marvel/Disney are interested in this idea remains to be seen.

Initially, the plan was to follow ASM2 with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 and spin-offs VENOM and THE SINISTER SIX, expanding the cinematic world that Webhead exists in. The backlash from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has caused Sony to seriously consider their future Spidey plans, with a merger of sorts with the MCU seen as a huge boost to the dwindling Spider-Man property. It’s far from official whether this will happen, whether Marvel Studios and Disney would be open to the idea, and whether an arrangement could be reached.

Expect more on this as it develops.
