With Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive Jessica Jones made available on the on-demand service as of last Friday, now comes some casting news for the upcoming Luke Cage show.

Marvel has officially announced that Kiss of the Spider Woman’s Sonia Braga has landed the role of Soledad Temple, the mother of Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.

On this news, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb said, “A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the perfect actress to deliver the stellar performance we need. In Marvel’s Luke Cage, fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for.”

Executive producer and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker added, “Sonia Braga? Rosario Dawson? ‘Nuff said, I’m tuning in. When it came to finding someone who was both formidable yet possessed a light touch, Sonia was the perfect choice and has been a Godsend.”

With this new addition, one would think this also means Claire Temple, who has appeared in Daredevil and Jessica Jones, will be appearing at some point in Luke Cage. Already confirmed for the upcoming Mike Colter-starring series are Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley as Raf Scarfe, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Shades, and Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard.

Marvel’s Luke Cage is set to arrive on Netflix next year.
