Whilst the dust is settling around Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, at present there’s no confirmed plans for the Man of Steel to get his own solo film any time soon. Sure, Warner Brothers have a crammed slate of DC-based movies ahead of them, plus the Last Son of Krypton will obviously be key to Zack Snyder’s two-part Justice League project, but there’s still no word on a straight-up Superman solo outing. It seems that some of the key players are certainly keen for one, though.

Speaking to IGN, Snyder, who helmed Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, said, “I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do. Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie was to support some of the events of Batman v Superman.”

Supes himself, Henry Cavill, added, “I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but they’ve got their plan set out for other stuff and Justice League and various other movies. It’s about finding the time really. It’s something I would be very keen to do.”

At present, Warners’ DC slate is looking mighty busy with David Ayer’s Suicide Squad set for an August release, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part One set for 2017, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s The Flash and James Wan’s Aquaman set for 2018, the Dwayne Johnson-starring Shazam and Snyder’s Justice League Part Two set for 2019, and then Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps. set for 2020. As well as these, Ben Affleck and DC’s Geoff Johns are currently working on the script for a solo Batman movie, work has begun once more on a script for a Lobo movie, and there’s still talks of bringing the Justice League Dark crew to the big screen.

Unfortunately, though, at the moment there’s no room for a solo Kal-El outing, although, as mentioned, certain happenings in Batman v Superman may factor into that.

Even though it’s been getting massively mixed reviews (you can find our’s here), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has just hit the $700 million mark at the global box office despite suffering a major second week drop-off of 69%.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops.
