The first trailer has been released for Six Hot Chicks in a Warehouse, director Simon Edwards’ (Beneath a Neon Tide) take on the grindhouse style of action/horror filmmaking so popular in recent years.

Funded last year by a Kickstarter campaign, the film’s synopsis reads:

A body conscious photographer, Adrian, concocts a scenario in which he attempts to project his insecurities onto those who mock him. Hired by Adrian, his professed muse Mira and five other girls begin to question who is using who when it becomes clear that the not-so-normal mind of the photographer himself isn’t all the girls have to worry about.

Although the film’s schlock sensibilities are all present and correct: a provocative title, beautiful women, excessive violence and a whole load of ass-kicking, Edwards is primarily a drama director who focuses on emotion. He perceives this human aspect as being absent from many genre films ‘where a number of scantily clad victims are lined up and taken down one by one.’ He aims instead to create a story with the same self-aware sense of the ridiculous, but one where ‘each character is exactly that: a character,’ and where the audience will ‘laugh and scream with what happens during the course of the movie.’

Genre fave Jessica Messenger (who appeared at the STARBURST Film Festival last year with Rats), co-produced the film as well as taking the lead role of lollipop-sucking badass Mira, stated that “It has taken a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (real ones) to get the film to where it is today. We have had a fantastic amount of support and patience from the horror community and I’m just looking forward to getting the film in front of an audience.”

Distribution is currently being sought for the film, but for now, the trailer below will give you a taste of what to expect from this ‘neon-soaked, ultraviolent, grindhouse-style horror movie.’
