Deadline is reporting that Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the relaunched cinematic STAR TREK series, will be co-writing STAR TREK 3.

Paramount had a script in place for the film which had been put together by Roberto Orci, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne. When Orci left the director’s chair late last year, it was believed that his script may still be used. Seemingly not. With FAST & FURIOUS’ Justin Lin now directing, Pegg will be co-writing STAR TREK 3 will BANSHEE’s Doug Jung.

In terms of writing credits, Pegg also wrote the likes of SPACED, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, THE WORLD’S END, PAUL and RUN, FATBOY, RUN.

STAR TREK 3 is currently set to be released on July 8th, 2016, which ties in nicely with the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
