Along with debuting a new trailer for Marvel’s Iron Fist at New York Comic Con this past weekend, Marvel also took the opportunity to announce a major new cast addition for The Defenders.

Joining Netflix’s superhero ensemble will be Sigourney Weaver. The Golden Globe winner, immortalized to genre fans as Ripley in the Alien franchise, will be playing the villain in Marvel’s The Defenders.

On this news, Marvel’s Jeph Loeb said, “Marvel is honoured to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever. She is by definition a class act.”

Netflix’s Cindy Holland added, “Sigourney Weaver, what more is there to say. She’s a formidable actress and we are thrilled to have her join our remarkable cast alongside Charlie, Kristen, Mike and Finn.”

Of course, the Charlie, Kristen, Mike and Finn mentioned are Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Kristen Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist. All four heroes will come together for the Marvel’s The Defenders mini-series.

No details are known on just which Marvel villain Weaver will be playing, but expect it to be somebody who’s a major threat given how it will take the might of four Marvel heroes to do battle with this rogue.

With Marvel’s Luke Cage now available on Netflix, up next for Marvel’s Netflix-exclusive shows is Marvel’s Iron Fist, which will debut on March 17th, 2017.
