With Blade Runner 2049 adorning the cover of our latest issue – available to purchase here – we’re all kinds of excited to see what Denis Villeneuve can do with his sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 movie. And now, just to up the excitement levels further, the first of three short films has been released that aim to tie together the original movie and the upcoming follow-up.

Titled 2036: Nexus Dawn, the first of these shorts centres on Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace. Directed by Luke Scott, we get to see Leto’s character introducing a new batch of replicants to the world. Be sure to check it out for yourself below:

The official word on Blade Runner 2049 reads:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Expect to see the next two tie-in short films as Blade Runner 2049 edges ever closer to its October 6th release.
