Warner Brothers’ upcoming Flash movie has seemingly found itself a director.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Seth Grahame-Smith is the man who will be tasked with helming the Ezra Miller-starring movie. Grahame-Smith, best known for writing the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies novels, not to mention having penned the screenplays for Dark Shadows and the upcoming Beetlejuice 2 and The LEGO Batman Movie, will also be writing The Flash.

Previously, The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had been brought in to pen a treatment for Warners’ The Flash, with the idea being that they would end up directing the film. That’s no longer the case, with the pair now attached to Disney’s upcoming Han Solo-centric Star Wars Anthology movie.

We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower’s Ezra Miller has long been on board to play Barry Allen in the DCCU, and the character is to first be a part of November 2017’s Justice League: Part One, although there are stories that he may also have a small part to play in next March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

It goes without saying, but this cinematic Scarlet Speedster will have no ties whatsoever to the Grant Gustin-headlined Flash TV show, which is due to return to US screens tonight (it’s UK return is next week). Considering how fantastic Gustin has been as the Sultan of Speed, not to mention the brilliant job Stephen Amell has done in Arrow, it’s a huge shame to the greater DC Cinematic Universe not to incorporate the already-established DC world that The CW has created by this point. We’re sure that Ezra Miller will do a great job, but he’s certainly got a lot to live up to if he’s to match Gustin’s performance as Barry Allen.

At the last count, which was a month or two back, it was believed that the upcoming Flash movie was looking to completely steer clear of copying the plot of The CW’s TV show yet it was also looking to tell Barry Allen’s origin story. Yeah, kinda hard to avoid mimicking the TV show in that case, considering the show has done an excellent job of telling Barry’s story to date.

Warner Brothers’ The Flash is currently pencilled in for a March 3rd, 2018 release.
