D23 dropped a bunch of Marvel goodies on Saturday, including a first trailer for Samuel L. Jackson’s Secret Invasion series and the Werewolf by Night Halloween special starring Gael Garcia Bernal.

Nick Fury and his sailor beard are Earth’s last line of defence against shape-shifting Skrull infiltrators. A spy thriller centred on Fury and Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Secret Invasion will reveal that a faction of Skrulls have been impersonating characters we know and love. In the comic crossover storyline, Secret Invasion involved a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, as they secretly replaced many of Earth’s superheroes with impostors before deploying an overt invasion. So who among our heroes will be exposed as alien spies?

Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, and Martin Freeman all return as Maria Hill, Rhodey, and Everett K. Ross, respectively, while Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke join the MCU in yet-unnamed roles. Kingsley Ben-Adir will portray the series’ main Skrull villain. Secret Invasion releases on Disney+ in Spring 2023.

Werewolf by Night will arrive on the platform much sooner, however. Directed by Michael Giacchino and starring Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell (aka Werewolf by Night) and Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, the trailer reveals very little about the one-hour special. No problem though, because the black-and-white retro horror vibes are cause enough for excitement. Werewolf by Night releases October 7th.
