Many fans of Wes Craven’s Scream movie franchise were a little unsure on how to react when it was announced that MTV was developing a Scream TV series. Well clearly that show has done something right, for it’s now been renewed for a second season.

MTV has announced the news, and it’s a reflection of the relatively strong numbers that the show has done to date. Over 21 million viewers have watched the series on MTV at this point, with another 8 million having watched on other platforms.

On the news, MTV’s Mina Lefevre said, “It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream. We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns.”

Bob Weinstein himself added, “We couldn’t be happier Scream has been renewed for a second season and that we have a wonderful working relationship with Doug Herzog, Stephen Friedman, Susanne Daniels, Mina Lefevre and her team. The Scream franchise has been such a huge part of our history and to watch it evolve, find a new generation of fans and succeed at MTV makes this all the more sweet. We promise even more scares, surprises, romance and of course kills in Season 2.”

So there you go: plenty of bat-packing official blurb.

Scream: The TV Series has yet to be picked up by a UK broadcaster, although with a second season now confirmed for the US, this may lead to a UK airing at some point in the near future.
