In recent years Drew Barrymore has become a familiar face in romantic comedies, but she is equally at home within the horror genre. As a child in the early 80’s she appeared in such terrortastic tales as Firestarter and Cat’s Eye, and who can forget her brief but altogether memorable role in Scream. More recently she’s starred in Netflix’s mildly amusing, if disappointing Santa Clara Diet. So, it should come as no surprise that the gifted 42-year-old actress is to produce a horror series entitled Black Rose Anthology; a horror series that is to be written and directed entirely by women.

The show will, “explore some of humanity’s deepest fears from a woman’s unique perspective,” Deadline reports, “Classic themes of terror will be tackled via vignettes about guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival through a modern and distinctly feminine lens.”

Drew’s production company Flower Films will make the series and, along with the recently released XX horror anthology from directors Karyn Kusama, Annie Clark (aka the musician St. Vincent), Roxanne Benjamin, and Jovanka Vuckovic, Black Rose Anthology will hopefully endorse and reiterate that women, too, can be horror maestros.
