Today brings news that cult favourite TV show Samurai Jack is to return to screens next year.

The original series ran from 2001 to 2004 and detailed the epic quest of a samurai who is trying to destroy the shapeshifting demon Aku. The demon is so powerful that it has been able to warp the world, and the samurai hero has been thrown into the future. Of course, in this future, the demon is all-powerful.

The series established its creator Genndy Tartakovsky as a fan and animation industry favourite, with the show quickly amassing a huge cult following. The new series will be part of Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim programming block, likely to be Toonami.

Hopefully we’ll know more on Samurai Jack’s return shortly, but for now enjoy this very short trailer:
