Finally it appears that Ryan Reynolds is officially set to sign on for the long-discussed DEADPOOL.

Reynolds stole the show as Wade Wilson (until, y’know, the Merc with the Mouth had his mouth stitched up) in 2009’s X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Since then, there was plenty of talk from fans and Reynolds himself about a solo movie for the character in his full Deadpool guise. Then came word that some test footage had actually been shot for a Deadpool film. Then we waited and waited and waited until said test footage finally surfaced online earlier this year. And you know what? It turned out that the footage was pitch-perfect, full of quips, violence and vulgarity. Due to the hugely positive response to the action, 20th Century Fox decided to finally get DEADPOOL moving along.

It’s a strange project is DEADPOOL, for the film has had a writer, script, and star for seemingly years now, yet Fox has seemed hesitant to pull the trigger on the movie. That said, the performance of other adult-themed superhero movies like the PUNISHER movies and the latter BLADE films likely put them off a tad. But now it seems like things are starting to finally gather some serious momentum for DEADPOOL.

It’s believed that Reynolds is close to signing on to star in the film any day now, with Fox currently looking at a March start date ahead of the film’s early 2016 planned release date. ZOMBIELAND’s Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have penned the script, with Tim Miller on board to direct. So now it’s just a case of getting the lead role signed up, which should hopefully be happening imminently.

It also adds further fuel to the fire when Reynolds himself takes to Twitter and posts, “Uh… It’s Chimichanga Time” and the below image:

DEADPOOL is currently set for a February 12th, 2016 release.
