To say that 20th
Century Fox’s Gambit has been stop/start would be a bit of an understatement.
And now the film has some further problems.

The
Hollywood Reporter
has word that director Rupert Wyatt has left the
project. On the news, the Rise of the
Planet of the Apes
helmer said, “I was very much looking forward to working
with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the
start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the
opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

The notion of a Gambit-focussed movie is something that has
been tossed around for the best part of a decade now, and things finally seemed
on track when Wyatt was brought in and Channing Tatum was cast as Remy LeBeau.
Then there were the issues of a few months ago, which saw Tatum looking to
leave the project before deciding to finally sign on the dotted line. With
their star in place, Lea Seydoux was then brought in as Bella Donna Boudreaux
and production was seemingly set to start next month.

How Wyatt’s departure affects the film remains to be seen,
although it would appear that 20th Century Fox would be best served to move
swiftly in finding his replacement.

At present Gambit is
set for an October 7th, 2016 release, but expect more on this as and when it
develops.
