Well, this is a pretty great piece of casting. Yes, as the title suggests, Rosie Perez is joining Birds of Prey.

Courtesy of The Wrap, it’s been revealed that Perez will be playing Renee Montoya in the Cathy Yan-helmed movie. Perez is a huge favourite of many for the likes of White Men Can’t Jump, Perdita Durango, Pineapple Express, and Go, Diego! Go!.

For those not familiar with Montoya, she’s a character who debuted back in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. One of Jim Gordon’s most trusted GCPD colleagues, Montoya soon became a favourite of many – even going on to become the heroic Question during The New 52.

In Birds of Prey, Perez joins Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary – with Cassandra Cain also to be a part of the titular team. Butting heads with this group will be the nefarious Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask.

Birds of Prey is currently set for a February 2020 release.
