With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story having been on release for nearly four weeks by this point, the film has just passed the $800 million mark at the global box office.

Whilst we lucky UK sorts saw Gareth Edwards’ trek to a galaxy far, far away released on December 15th, our US cousins had to wait an extra day to check out the adventures of Jyn Urso and Co. With a North American box office that currently stands at $440.9 million, coupled with $361 million from international markets, the worldwide box office figure for Rogue One is presently at $801.9 million.

That impressive figure places the film as the second highest grossing movie of 2016 in North America – Finding Dory is at #1 – and the seventh highest grossing worldwide. The current top spot for worldwide box office of 2016 is Captain America: Civil War, which took home $1.15 billion.

Where Rogue One is concerned, there’s an ace up its sleeve as it’s yet to be released in China. The film will hit the big screen there as of January 6th, meaning there’s every chance that it could well pass the magic billion dollar mark before all is said and done.
