A new cinematic relaunch for POWER RANGERS has been in the works for a while now, although Deadline is reporting that Roberto Orci has now departed the project. Orci was set to executive produce Lionsgate and Saban’s latest redo of the franchise, although it appears that his hands will be full with directing the upcoming STAR TREK 3.

In terms of talent still involved with POWER RANGERS, Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, best known for work on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and THOR, will be penning the film’s script. The effort is being described as a modern-day reinvention of the franchise that started way back in 1993. Plot-wise, we’ll see plenty of the usual: a group of high school kids using extraterrestrial powers to save the world and fight the bad guys.

POWER RANGERS is currently slated for a July 22nd, 2016 release.
