The movies of Rob Zombie are firmly an acquired taste, but we here at STARBURST are huge fans of the rocker-turned-director’s work. As such, it’s great to hear that Zombie has landed a North American distribution deal for his latest effort, 31.

31 debuted to high acclaim at this year’s Sundance, and now the clown-centric horror has been picked up by Saban Films. The company will distribute Zombie’s latest offering in North America, with a September 16th release now confirmed.

On this news, Saban Films President Bill Bromiley said, “31 is a treat not just to horror fans, but fans of true auteur filmmaking. The film is executed in true stylistic Zombie fashion. Rob is an unrivalled talent, and we are thrilled to bring his bold new film to audiences across the continent.”

Zombie himself added, “After meeting with Saban, it was obvious that this was the perfect home for 31. They have a true understanding of the genre and how to handle it. I am very excited to work with them.”

The dark and twisted 31 stars Zombie mainstays Sheri Moon Zombie, Malcolm McDowell, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Meg Foster, and the official synopsis for the film reads:

The day before Halloween, five carnival employees are kidnapped & held hostage in an isolated compound known as “Murderworld”. On Halloween, they are thrown into a sadistic game called “31” where they must survive 12 hours against a gang of maniacs dressed like clowns. However, the clowns aren’t the only ones they need to worry about – a grand scheme of satanic rituals & a much more sadistic plot awakens. It’s time to play 31.

Here’s hoping that a UK release is announced at some point in the near future.
