Now you’d think that the apparent demise of the Firefly family at the end of Rob Zombie’s THE DEVIL’S REJETS would be the obvious reason as to why we won’t see those crazy bastards on screen one more time. Apparently not. Speaking to Fangoria, Zombie revealed the biggest stumbling block to seeing the likes of Otis, Baby and Captain Spaulding again.

The writer/director/rocker revealed, “I’ve always thought I’d like to make another movie, because I love the characters, and I have an idea I think is solid for a third one – an idea that would make sense. The problem is, I don’t own the characters now. They’re owned by Lionsgate, and they just don’t have any desire to do anything. So it isn’t me not doing it because I don’t want to; I don’t have the ability to get it done.”

The family first appeared back in Zombie’s 2003 HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES before returning in 2005’s follow-up. In recent years, Lionsgate has been more interested in movies like THE HUNGER GAMES, which is far removed from the twisted world that Zombie’s Firefly family exist in.

Personally, we enjoyed all of Zombie’s films on various levels, so a Firefly family return would be hotly anticipated by us. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing this family of lunatics again any time soon. I guess we’ll just have to wait for more details to emerge for Zombie’s upcoming 31 instead.
