Rob Liefeld’s EXTREME UNIVERSE Heading to the Big Screen

Ready for another shared cinematic movie universe? We hope so, for Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Universe is getting set to head to the big screen.

Deadline is reporting that plans are in place for Graham King and Fundamental Films to work with Akiva Goldsman and Weed Road to develop several stories under a similar ‘writers room’ structure that’s been used on Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise. Liefeld himself will also be involved, as he’ll be producing alongside Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment.

Rob Liefeld is someone who many comic book fans hold in high esteem, with him famously co-creating a certain Merc with a Mouth by the name of Deadpool. He’s also highly regarded for his work on Marvel’s The New Mutans and X-Force titles, and he helped change the game by being one of the names who started up Image Comics.

Since debuting in the 1990s, Liefeld’s Extreme Universe has seen several changes to its titles, with its most recent incarnation featuring titles such as Bloodstrike, Brigade, Kaboom, Cybrid and Bloodwulf. In terms of previous books, Youngblood and Avengelyne are some of the bigger hitters, and the movie rights for Avengelyne are already with Paramount Pictures and has the aforementioned Akiva Goldsman attached to direct.

At this early stage, it’s yet to be confirmed just which titles and characters will be transported from the comic book Extreme Universe to the silver screen, but it’s believed that any outings will take a more mature, adult tone in a way similar to last year’s hugely successful Deadpool.

As ever, expect more on this as it all develops.
