STARBURST is deeply saddened to learn that Richard Kiel has died aged 74.

The 7ft 2in actor was most famous for his role as James Bond villain Jaws in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977) and MOONRAKER (1979), but had been a familiar face to genre fans for some time before that. One of his earliest roles was in the Boris Karloff-hosted 1961 THRILLER episode, WELL OF DOOM, and the TWILIGHT ZONE episode TO SERVE MAN in 1962.

He also had the lead role as the rampaging caveman in the 1962 clunker EEGAH.

It’s perhaps as the silver-toothed colossus Jaws that he will be best remembered, but like the character, who eventually reforms and becomes good, he was in reality a gentle giant and everyone who was lucky enough to meet him came away with happy memories.

STARBURST sends its thoughts to his family and friends.
