It’s our sad duty to report the passing of a genuine genre icon, acclaimed artist/designer H.R. Giger. He died on Monday May 12th after an accident in his home in Zurich. He was 74.

Giger was best known to movie fans for creating the Xenomorph in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic Alien, but also contributed to the likes Species, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis, Prometheus, Batman Forever, and the aborted Alejandro Jodorowsky adaptation of Dune (work which can now be glimpsed via the recent documentary).

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
