Legendary actor Herbert Lom has passed away at the age of 95.

Mr. Lom was born Charles Angelo Kuchacevich Schluderpachenu in Czechoslovakia in 1917 shortening it to Lom when he decided to take up acting on the stage, learning his craft before progressing into feature film and television. 

An incredible, versatile actor with a distinctive voice, he accrued a list of impressive genre roles including Dr. Van Helsing in Jess Franco’s faithful adaptation of Count Dracula opposite Christopher Lee, the Phantom in the 1962 version of Phantom of the Opera, the 1971 version of Murders in the Rue Morgue as Rene Marot, and Captain Nemo in Mysterious Island.

Even in cameo roles such as Journey to the Journey To The Far Side of the Sun where he played Dr. Hessler, an innovative, enemy secret agent with a camera installed in his eye, he caught our attention.

He was also an accomplished writer. His last effort was the screenplay adaptation of Murders in the Rue Morgue for Roger Corman ten years ago where he would have reprised his role as Rene Marot. Unfortunately it was never made.

A memorable and gifted actor he was always fascinating to watch in every character he created.

We will miss him.
