The British writer and radio producer Charles Chilton passed away on January 2nd 2013 aged 95. He is best known to science-fiction fans for JOURNEY INTO SPACE, a trilogy of stories written and produced between 1953 and 1958. He was also a member of the British Interplanetary Society and in latter years acted as a London tour guide.

JOURNEY INTO SPACE documented the adventures of Captain Jet Morgan and his crew as they set out for first the moon and then Mars. It was the last radio programme to attract a larger evening audience than television and was translated into 17 languages.

The recordings of the show were believed lost until a version was discovered in 1986 which allowed the BBC to re-broadcast the show which has since been made available on CD. It was repeated on BBC 4 Extra in 2012.
