In some sad news, it’s being reported that Brian Clemens passed away yesterday. He was 83 years of age.

An influential and popular character in British genre TV, he was responsible for some of the most iconic properties of the last sixty years. He created THE AVENGERS, which starred Patrick Macnee and made sex symbols of every female co-star to feature, including Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg, as well as Joanna Lumley in the ‘70s revamp THE NEW AVENGERS. In the early ‘70s he had an anthology series, THRILLER, which ran for six series to much acclaim. He also created the high action cult show THE PROFESSIONALS.

For Hammer films he wrote DOCTOR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE and scored his only directing credit for CAPTAIN KRONOS – VAMPIRE HUNTER, a film which has been rightfully re-appraised in recent times.

He was a one-of-a-kind powerhouse writer, and was acknowledged as such with an OBE in 2010.
STARBURST extends its sympathy to his family and friends, and thanks him for everything he has done for the genre we love.
