Opinion remains divided over the merits of a BLADE RUNNER sequel, or the potential of one at least. When there are multiple cuts, some of them significantly different to one another, a follow-up seems arbitrary. The project, however, has gained steam.

Director Ridley Scott praised the draft of script (penned by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green) to follow-up his cyber punk masterpiece based on Phillip K Dick’s DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the director stated “It’s written and it’s damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years – despite the accident . So yes, that will happen.”

Scott, a glutton for punishment, has a loaded schedule: he’s currently shooting THE MARTIAN starring Matt Damon, preparing to release EXODUS, has his eyes on an the aforementioned follow-up and is still planning PROMETHEUS 2, which he confimed is also written.

Whether or not BLADE RUNNER needed a sequel is moot, looks like it’s getting one. Let’s just hope it’s as good as the first umpteen cuts.
