With Ridley Scott’s The Martian released in the UK next week, the director has now revealed that his next film will be the long-mooted Prometheus sequel. Not only that, but we could be getting as many as three sequels.

When asked by FilmFutter about whether Prometheus would eventually tie to Scott’s 1979 Alien, he revealed, “Yes, but it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise. The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

Now one thing it’s maybe worth noting is that the above quotes from Scott have been translated from German, so it remains to be seen how accurate they are. Unfortunately, our German’s not quite up to scratch these days (although some of us can speak Welsh, for what it’s worth. No demand? Righto…).

Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will both be back for Prometheus 2, which is set to start shooting around January or February of next year. Elsewhere, Neill Blomkamp is working on Alien 5, although that film’s production is reportedly being held off until things Prometheus 2 is finished.
