With Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant hitting the big screen next month – not to mention Scott’s plans for plenty of further Alien movies – now comes word on another new project for the iconic director.

As per Deadline, Scott is being lined up to helm a Battle of Britain-based effort for 20th Century Fox. That World War II battle, of course, saw the British underdogs overcoming the Nazis. Described as a passion project for Ridley, Operation Finale’s Matthew Orton is on board to pen the screenplay. Bride of Spies writer Matt Charman will serve as executive producer alongside Steven Spielberg.

With things now starting to move forward on this project, it will mark the first time since Guy Hamilton’s 1969 Battle of Britain that this particular element of World War II has been tackled in a major motion picture.

After Adolf Hitler had moved through France and ran the British army out of mainland Europe in 1940, his sights were set on invading Britain. As Germany did battle with the British Royal Air Force, Hitler and his men would suffer their first major defeat of WWII, and this is seen as one of the biggest moments in the tide turning and the Nazis being defeated.

Up next for Ridley Scott is All the Money in the World over at Sony Pictures, with that movie focussing on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. He’s also got The Cartel lined up at Fox, and then there’s those further Alien films – of which it seems there could be as many as another four movies.
