With Hugh Jackman’s Logan getting ready for one final outing, James Mangold’s The Wolverine sequel has added Richard E. Grant to its ranks.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that the Withnail and I star has landed the role of a mad scientist in the film. At this point, there’s no confirmation on just which crazed scientist Grant will be playing – because, y’know, Marvel’s comic book realm is overflowing with more looney scientists than a Re-Animator movie – although early rumours suggests that the role in question could end up being somebody involved in the Weapon X program, such as Dr. Abraham Cornelius or Professor Andrew Thorton, or even maybe, possibly, perhaps, perchance uber-rogue (and total badass) Mister Sinister.

Already confirmed for Wolverine 3 are Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and Boyd Holbrook as one of the villains of the piece. Additionally, X-23 is a character who’ll also be appearing.

Plot-wise, there’s still regular speculation that this final outing for Jackman’s Canucklehead will be loosely based on Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan arc. There’s also speculation, particularly following the success of Deadpool, that the film could end up being R-rated.

To be released on March 3rd, 2017, Wolverine 3 is due to start shooting in New Mexico and New Orleans next month.
