The Star Wars universe is filled with all sorts of cool looking spaceships that do all sorts of jobs. The M3-A Interceptor may not be a ship that immediately springs to mind when you think of Star Wars, but these zippy little fighters make total sense.
They’re essentially fighter craft for smugglers and other dodgy types; a scrappy looking fighter used mostly by criminals for all sorts of mischief. The M3-A Interceptor model for the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game certainly looks the part; it looks like a TIE fighter and an X-Wing had a mutant lovechild. Painted in brown and tan tones, it’s a moody looking doom moth of a piece, and fits the bill perfectly.
Rules-wise, this is a pretty manoeuvrable fighter; it’s got two K-Turns and though it’s no TIE Interceptor is does the job pretty well. Like a TIE, it’s got low fire-power and low shields, but it’s slightly more likely to hit the enemy. The default rules make the thing an ideal ‘grunt’ or ‘swarm’ fighter, and if you can stretch for the points you can make the thing even more agile and quick.
You can also upgrade the ship to allow for weapons. It may be a poor-man’s TIE when it’s unequipped, but once you add a mangler cannon and a stealth device, suddenly it becomes a happy little ambush murder machine.
The M3-A Interceptor is a smart looking model which is designed to function as the backbone of your scum and villainy fleet. It’s designed so if it blows up in the first few rounds you won’t have lost too much, so it can run as interference for your better ships. It can handle itself well and could easily blow up the odd Millennium Falcon or two if it’s in a squadron. This is a very useful addition to a force and is recommended.
