As a series, Scribblenauts has been around in some form or fashion since 2009. And now, a swanky new double-pack effort has hit the regular platforms. So, let’s sit down and take a good ol’ look at this cute and quirky world once more.
In terms of premise, Scribblenauts is a world that has literally endless possibilities. You take control of young Maxwell, who just so happens to have some pretty impressive powers at his disposal. There may be all sorts of puzzles and conundrums in front of him, but Maxwell’s ace in the pack is his ability to summon up pretty much anything that the player can imagine. In this new release, we have Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, and it really is hard to explain just how much fun this concept continues to be.
By this point in the franchise, it’s clear that 5th Cell have moved to keep the games fresh by making them feel more story-driven than some of the earlier outings. For purists, Unlimited is very much as Scribblenauts as Scribblenauts gets, while Unmasked gives this whole world a sheen of superhero shine. In Unmasked, you see, not only are you able to magic up your usual run of limitless items, but now you can summon up pretty much any and every hero from the realm of DC Comics. And we really do mean it when we say that the roster is extensive, and there’s far more than just Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman who are at your disposal here. If you can think of them, the game will likely feature them.
With Scribblenauts Mega Pack, we have a release that is an utter joy to play. The concept involved in both games is perfect for stimulating the creative juices and imagination – not to mention spelling – of youngsters out there, and even you big kids will have an absolute ball seeing just how far your creativity can stretch to.
Without a doubt, the Scribblenauts world is nothing if not fun, and the constant freshness flowing through both titles here is enough to keep you regularly coming back to these games. Scribblenauts is a ridiculously simple concept, but that’s often key to creating something great. And here, creativity really is king.
