OMG, this might just be the worst movie title of all time! The only way is up, right? Sadly, the rest of it isn’t too hot either. Meeting for a night of board games, banging, and boozing, a gang of friends realise that they have become trapped in the plot of a horror movie. The race is on to ensure they survive the night, everyone fighting for the title of Final Girl or Guy. Less Cabin in the Woods, more House on a Suburban Street but Not Enough Budget to go Outside Very Often. And yeah, that title is still better than the one they ended up with.
Without wishing to take a dump all over ambitious indie filmmaking, let’s just say that this one wasn’t for this reviewer, being big on ideas, but low on technical proficiency, good writing, acting, and story. It tries hard, with Community and Joss Whedon-esque aspirations of humour, but its characters irritate and most of its jokes fall flat. And those that don’t (slasher victim beating the snot out of her would-be attacker, another with a series of hit-and-runs) become so overplayed that you’ll wish they never bothered in the first place. LMAO? Not even a solitary LOL.
As if not liking this no-budget, ultra-independent genre movie didn’t feel bad enough already, there’s a series of outtakes during the credits which make it clear that everyone who worked on OMG! We’re in a Horror Movie! had a blast. It’s very thankful to all of its supporters too, just to hammer home that sense of guilt. Look, it’s good they all had fun making it, and there’s certainly a sense of ambition there, but OMG, this is not a good movie. FFS.
