Life Signs provides four stories about the frontiers of science, with a Twilight Zone twist at the end. The first story is Inheritance, which neatly emphasises how inspiration can be a powerful force in how we lead our lives. It also puts a spin on comic book hero stories and how they could also inspire us as readers in the same manner.
Taking Its Toll shows that if your life is dull and boring, and you long for what could have been, don’t lose hope. There are new avenues for even the saddest person, if you can’t find the right time!
Instead of changing time, DNA looks at how we can modify our bodies to change our lives and become happier and improve our relationships. DNA and Taking the Toll are the most humorous of this collection and have a quirky take on future possibilities.
Terrafractum is a more detailed story about two tribes that go to war yet are very similar in terms of culture and beliefs. Like the other stories it comes to a neat climax at the end.
All four stories show how miraculous things, gadgets and technologies can shape our lives for good or bad. At the core of them we are still human beings with emotions and desires, and they are what really matter in our relationship with the universe.
