BORDERLANDS 2 VR

2012’s Borderlands 2’s is one of the standout FPS games of its generation. It quickly became a favourite of many players due to its blend of over the top action, insane characters, pop culture references, genuinely hilarious dialogue, some of the best DLC ever made, and mountains upon mountains of loot, and its remaster was equally well-received upon its re-release as part of the current-gen Handsome Collection in 2015. Now, six years after its first appearance, Borderlands 2 has been remade in virtual reality… but is it still a must-have title?

In a word – absolutely! It’s impossible to overstate how incredible it is to revisit the world of Pandora in VR. The entire original game is playable from beginning to end, and feeling like you’re actually walking around the familiar locations and actually meeting life-sized versions of the characters is unbelievably great fun.

The controls work tremendously well, with DualShock 4 and Move support included., and no stone is left unturned in the options department, with a whole range of comfort and locomotion options to choose from so you can set things up exactly to your liking to ensure that the only sickness you might encounter is joy-puke rather than puke-puke.

It’s a little jarring that the cutscenes haven’t been remade in VR, reverting to a flat screen instead, but all things considered it doesn’t detract from the overall excitement too much. It’s a real shame that none of the previously released DLC content is included here though, and multiplayer has been omitted so anyone used to playing as part of a team might be left disappointed. Still, the entire original game is playable from beginning to end which – with four different character classes to try out and so many different weapons to play around with – is more than enough to keep you going for a long long time.

Borderlands 2 VR plays exactly the way fans of the series would expect, and apart from those couple of nitpicks it’s pretty much as great as you would imagine. It really is an absolute blast, and it’s fantastic to add another “full” game (ie. one that lasts more than a couple of hours) to the PSVR library. Buy it, buy it, buy it!
