A Brief History Of Time Lords is the latest addition to the many Doctor Who reference books that have been released since the series returned in 2005, but with so many books like this, covering many similar elements, is it a worthy addition?
Taking a look at the world of Gallifrey from within the continuity of the world of Doctor Who (rather from a production point of view), this one offers insights into its notable figures and moments, using a mixture of text, photos and illustrations in a nicely put together – and handy sized – hardback book.
There are compelling elements within the book, particularly when it looks at the darker side of the history and some of the more interesting characters, but it seems to be lacking in an emotional connection to the subject at times, making it a very dry read in places.
Overall, it probably won’t tell a die-hard fan much that they don’t already know, but for newer and younger fans (especially those who have not seen much classic Who), the book is nicely accessible for them and there is quite a bit that they can take from the book.
