Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit cinemas later this year, and we already know that a certain Darth Vader fella will be making an appearance in that film, but now comes word that another familiar face will be making a small appearance.

It goes without saying, but if you don’t want to know who’s going to be turning up in Rogue One then turn away now…

SPOILERS

Still with us? Great stuff. Well, that returning character that we’re on about… it’s Bail Organa, the adoptive father of Princess Leia. Jimmy Smits, who played the role in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, revealed the news on The Talk.

Previously, the new Rogue One footage that debuted at the recent Star Wars Celebration event seemed to feature somebody who looked remarkably like Jimmy Smits, and the actor confirmed that this was indeed him and that he has a small cameo role in Rogue One.

Given how Gareth Edwards’ upcoming movie takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars (or A New Hope for you younger sorts), it makes sense that Bail Organa would be a presence in the picture considering how he was previously helping the Jedi to fight the good fight before the character was ultimately blown up with the entire population of Alderaan in the original 1977 Star Wars movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which focusses on a group of resistance fighters looking to steal the plans to the Death Star, is currently set for a December 16th release.
