Sony Pictures has moved to finally announce a release date for their upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot.

This redo of a longtime favourite of many a genre fan has been booked in for a June 7th, 2019 release. Elizabeth Banks will be directing the reboot after she made her full feature film directing debut with Pitch Perfect 2. Banks will likely be better known to genre fans for playing Rita Repulsa in the recent Power Rangers reboot, as Betty Brant in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, and for the likes of Zack and Miri Make a Porno, The Hunger Games and The LEGO Movie.

As well as Banks being on board for Charlie’s Angels, Narcos’ Miro and Carlo Bernard have been brought in to rewrite the screenplay.

Charlie’s Angels, of course, first began life back in 1976 as a TV show featuring the likes of Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd, and David Doyle. From there, we got the rebooted Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle in 2000 and 2003, with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Demi Moore involved with those. More recently, 2011 saw ABC debut a new Charlie’s Angels TV series from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, but that was scrapped after just four episodes.

Expect more on this new take on the beloved Charlie’s Angels as it continues to develops.
