A story came out a few weeks back about Xena: Warrior Princess being rebooted in some fashion, although former Xena, Lucy Lawless, was quick to shoot down those reports. Well it’s now been officially confirmed that, yes, a Xena redo is in the works.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC’s Bob Greenbalt revealed that the network is currently working on getting something going for the Xena property once more. He said, “Yes, we’re in the early stages of developing a new take on Xena and we’re looking for a writer. We want to do it. I don’t think it’s just a continuation, but we haven’t gotten that far. I think it’s a great character, and we should try to figure out how to revive it somehow.”

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who were the minds behind the original TV series, are believed to be involved in this new take on Xena. Unfortunately for those hoping Lawless would be back as the Warrior Princess, the titular role is to be recast for the new series should it get off the ground.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
