Right, if true, there are some pretty hefty spoilers ahead for the DC Cinematic Universe and particularly as it relates to Batman and his world. The below is just rumour for now, but seriously, if you have a fear of any spoilers, turn back now.

SPOILERS

It’s being reported by BadAssDigest that the reason that we’ve not heard anything about Jim Gordon being present in BATMAN V SUPERMAN is because Batman’s long-time aide is actually dead! To put things into perspective, Ben Affleck’s Batman is believed to have been operating in Gotham City for approximately 17 years by the time the events of BATMAN V SUPERMAN occur, meaning that there’s a whole lot of tales to tell from the Dark Knight’s past. If this latest story is to be believed, Jim Gordon’s death is one of those tales from the Caped Crusader’s previous years.

The report goes on to say that the exact specifics behind Jim Gordon’s demise are not known at this stage, although there will be a memorial plaque to Gordon shown in Gotham City. Additionally, it’s also being speculated that Gordon’s death may be being used in place of Jason Todd’s death. An early version of BATMAN V SUPERMAN’s script revealed that one of the Robins, presumably Jason, had earlier been killed by The Joker, mirroring the famed comic book arc. Now it’s believed that there’s no longer the idea of including a dead Robin in Batman’s backstory, with some thinking that Gordon may be filling in for the Boy Wonder.

As mentioned, there’s a whole lot of backstory available to delve into with future film’s centred on the World’s Greatest Detective, and maybe Gordon’s death will be explored in a future film. That said, no solo Batman film has been confirmed at this stage, although one is believed to be planned for 2020. As well as BATMAN V SUPERMAN, the Dark Knight will be responsible for putting the titular team together in the two planned JUSTICE LEAGUE movies, so Affleck’s Caped Crusader will be getting a lot of screen time over the next few years.

Despite sounding perfectly plausible, treat all of the above purely as rumour for now.

To be directed by Zack Snyder, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is currently set for a March 25th, 2016 release.
